The Data Office has been formally established and today launches its official website at data.gov.vin, where the open data of the Network's departments and services is published and access to their data holdings is arranged.

    Eighteen datasets from sixteen departments and network services, with forty-six more scheduled by 31 December 2026.

  • Register of Data Holdings

    The principal data holdings of every department and network service, their controllers and their classification.

  • Data Standards

    Formats, metadata, identifiers and dates: the standards every published dataset must meet.

  • Requesting Data

    How to ask for data that has not been published. Acknowledged within two working days, answered within twenty.

About the Data Office

The Data Office of the Velocity Interoperability Network is responsible for the publication of open data by the departments and network services of the Velocity Interoperability Network, and for access to their data holdings.

It maintains the open data catalogue and the register of data holdings, sets the standards to which data is published, handles requests for data that has not been published, and administers the licence under which the Network's data may be reused.

Milestones

  1. 6 September 2026

    Data Office established

    Responsibility for open data publication, the register of data holdings, data standards and requests for data across the Network.

  2. 6 September 2026

    data.gov.vin launched

    The open data catalogue, the register of data holdings, the data standards and guidance on requests and licensing published on the official website.

  3. 6 September 2026

    First datasets, request service and licence

    Eighteen datasets published from sixteen departments and network services, the data request service opened, and the Network Open Data Licence and publication standards adopted.

  4. Forthcoming

    Further releases and the first report on requests

    Forty-six further datasets are scheduled for publication by 31 December 2026. The Office's first quarterly report on requests received and answered, covering the quarter ending 31 December 2026, will be announced in the Newsroom.

History of the Data Office
